Push Sushi

Ōchizushi would have sounded better

I'm sure nobody ever got tired of playing Traffic Jam, right? Well, who am I kidding? Some levels can have such convoluted solutions that frustration will set in much faster than boredom ever could. I'm not saying Push Sushi is any better, but I think it deserves a look.

As I implied above, Push Sushi is a Traffic Jam clone. For those who have no idea what that is, the game consists of a series of deduction puzzles in which you need to move sushi around to make way for the main course so that it can exit the stage, so to speak.

Push Sushi

Push Sushi contains some five hundred levels, which are split into five difficulty ranges. The fewer moves you make to solve a puzzle, the higher your reward will be. Finishing a puzzle using the minimum number of steps (or close to that) would give you three stars, which are used to unlock various sushi skins. There are 51 varieties of delicious sushi that you can discover as you play, but not all have star requirements.

Solving puzzles also yields you hint points. A hint point can be spent to receive a complete solution to your current level. Use these sparingly; otherwise you'll be forced to watch ad videos, and you'll get dumber doing that. Therefore avoid this vicious circle at all costs.

Push Sushi

The graphics in Push Sushi are very tame and cute. Sushi pieces, nigiri and maki alike, all have sleepy little faces which wake up in confusion whenever you move them. As far as sound goes, there's only one music track, but it's very calm and upbeat, so it doesn't begin to feel repetitive too soon. When it does, however, maybe it's a sign to put down the smartphone and go for a walk.

Final Thoughts

Despite the lackluster title, Push Sushi proves that anything gets better with sushi. I for one was tired of Traffic Jam, but this little app has got me playing for days. Itadakimasu!
